These Koras have been carefully hand crafted in the Gambia by the leading instrument maker in the Gambia Lamin Suso. Lamin is the son of the late master Kora maker Alieu Suso, and he is now continuing this inherited legacy single handed. His instruments are undisputedly among the finest in the Gambia, and professional musicians have travelled from all over for his services.

This is a unique opportunity to purchase one of these fine instruments from the United Kingdom where they have been shipped. All Koras will be personally prepared and tuned by Sona Jobarteh before dispatch.

Koras come with either leather tuning rings or metal tuning pegs.

Kora Cases are available on request when bought with a Kora. The cases are plain navy blue in colour, soft padded, with rucksack-like straps so the kora can be worn comfortably on the back. Cases cost £40.

CLASSIC NYLON KORA STRINGS

This pack solves the problem of spending lots of money on lots of reels of different thicknesses of string, especially when you only need a few lengths for the thick strings which hardly ever break. A reel for just the thickest string will cost around the same amount it costs for this whole set of 21 strings.

Here you have a full set of 21 strings which includes all the thicknesses you will need for stringing your Kora or mending broken strings. It also comes with a useful guide and diagram to show you exactly where to fit each thickness of string on your instrument.

This set contains seven packets, each containing a different string thickness, and each packet is clearly labeled as to where to fit the string.
